Problem Verbs (Kata Kerja) Pada Soal TOEFL

Verbs (Kata Kerja)

Sebelum ngomongin verb (kata kerja) lebih jauh, kita sebaiknya baca lagi posting tentang “BASIC ENGLISH GRAMMAR” diposting tersebut disebutkan kalo :

Contoh :

People in big cities tends to use their spare time doing sports or hanging out in parks.

  • Kata yang salah adalah tends .
  • People merupakan subjek plural maka kata kerja yang digunakan seharusnya tend bukan tends

BERIKUT SPECIAL RULES ALIAS ATURAN KHUSUS TENTANG SUBJEK N VERB:

A.    YANG WAJIB PAKE PLURAL VERB

1.    Jika ada sebuah kalimat yang menggunakan katasambung “and”.

  • The library and the classroom are . . .

2.    Kata benda (noun) yang memiliki bentuk irregular alias gag beraturan (children, feet, mice, dan laen-laen).

  • The men were . . .
  • His teeth are . . .

3.    Penggunaan there, jika diikuti plural noun maka pake verb plural

  • There are books
  • There were books

4.    Kata kerja relative clauses menyesuaikan kata benda yang menjadi acuan.

  • The houses that were bought . . .
  • The students who were absent . . .

5.    A number of selalu diikuti plural verb

  • A number of trees are . . .
  • A number of trees were . . .

B.    YANG WAJIB PAKE SINGULAR VERB

1.    Kata benda tunggal yang emang aslinya berakhiran ‘s’. Contohnya kaya kata-kata economics, physics, news

  • Physics is . . .
  • The news was . . .

2.    Penggunaan there, jika diikuti singular noun maka pake verb singular.

  • There is a book
  • There was a book

3.    Subjek yang didahului each dan every selalu pake singular verbs. (termasuk everyone en everything)

  • Each state is . . .
  • Each of the representatives has . . .
  • Every person wants . . .
  • Everyone was . . .

4.    Kata kerja pada relative clauses menyesuaikan kata benda yang menjadi acuan.

  • The house that was bought . . .
  • The student who was absent . . .

5.    The number of selalu diikuti singular verb.

  • The number of trees is . . .
  • The number of trees was . . .

6.    Along with, accompanied by, together with, as well as, dan in addition to diikuti singular verb.

  • The president, along with soldier, is . . .
  • Together with his friends, Nancy has . . .

7.    Kata-kata yang menunjukan kuantitas, seperti quantities of time, money, distance, dan semacamnya.

  • Five thousand rupiahs was . . .
  • Six months has . . .
  • Five miles is . . .

Catatan,
1.    Semua modals (will, can, may, shall, must, would, could, might, should) selalu diikuti based verb/V1

  • She will go, bukan she will goes/she will going

2.    Tobe (am, is, are, was, were, be, been) kalo gag diikuti verb-ing ya diikuti V3

  • He is writing a letter
  • The novel is written by him

3.    Auxiliary verb (kata kerja bantu) seperti have, has, had selalu diikuti V3

  • I have studied

*** Tapi kalo have to, has to, had to = must jadi diikuti V1

  • I had to study
